Baseball Game Preview: Sedan Devils vs. Oxford Wildcats

The Sedan Devils will take on the Oxford Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Sedan will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

Sedan is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Udall on Monday as they made off with a 16-5 victory. The Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by six runs or more this season.

Jackson Shipley made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Shipley was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, Brycen Dickens was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with seven RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Brian Hert, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Sedan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .650. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Oxford has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 2.27 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Thursday. They fell just short of Flinthills by a score of 12-11.

Sedan pushed their record up to 8-3 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Oxford, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-3.

Sedan beat Oxford 3-0 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Devils repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
