Softball Recap: Western Harnett's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

After flying high against Overhills last Tuesday, Western Harnett came back down to earth. Western Harnett lost 20-7 to the Union Pines Vikings on Thursday. The Eagles' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Kaylee Yow was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2. Another player making a difference was Olivia Moomaw, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.

Even though they lost, Western Harnett was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in four consecutive matches.

Western Harnett now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Union Pines, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 9-5.

Coming up, Western Harnett will venture away from home to take on Overhills at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Western Harnett's pitchers better be ready for this one: Overhills has averaged an impressive 12.9 runs per game this season. As for Union Pines, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Montgomery Central at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
