Basketball Game Preview: Orono Riots vs. Foxcroft Academy Ponies

The Orono Riots will head out to take on the Foxcroft Academy Ponies at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Orono is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maine's top teams: Ellsworth, who was ranked fourth at the time (Orono was ranked 11th). Orono fell 48-37 to Ellsworth on Friday. The Riots' defeat signaled the end of their nine-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, Foxcroft Academy also suffered a loss in their last game, but this one to Presque Isle by a score of 48-36.

Orono's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-6. As for Foxcroft Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Orono against Foxcroft Academy in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, as the team secured an 81-38 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Orono since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
