Soccer Game Preview: Doherty vs. Pine Creek

Doherty is 0-9 against Pine Creek since April of 2015 but things could change on Monday. The Spartans will face off against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m.

Doherty managed to keep up with Liberty until halftime on Thursday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Spartans lost 3-0 to the Lancers. Doherty fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against Liberty since on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Pine Creek had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 goals) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They never let the Trojans get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The result was nothing new for Pine Creek, who have now won four matchups by five goals or more so far this season.

Their offense was hitting Fountain-Fort Carson from everywhere, as seven different players booted in a goal. Isla Eaton led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for three goals all by herself.

Pine Creek pushed their record up to 6-1-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 29 goals over those four contests. As for Doherty, their loss dropped their record down to 2-8.

Doherty suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Pine Creek in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
