Basketball Recap: Columbia Independent Find Success + How To Watch

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against New Franklin, Columbia Independent was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They walked away with a 56-49 victory over the Otterville Eagles. This was payback for Columbia Independent, who suffered a 53-32 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Mustapha Salau had a dynamite game, dropping a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Those 12 boards gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Heath Turner Diaz, who went 5-for-10 on his way to 12 points and three steals.

Columbia Independent smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in eight consecutive games dating back to last season.

The win got Columbia Independent back to even at 1-1. As for Otterville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Columbia Independent will venture away from home to take on Paris at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Otterville, they will head out to face off against Prairie Home at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
