Basketball Recap: Sebastian Meraz's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hanks over El Dorado

Hanks was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They fell 66-53 to the El Dorado Aztecs. The Knights were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Aztecs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2022.

Hanks' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sebastian Meraz, who posted 17 points and eight boards. Meraz is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played. Martin Gomez was another key player, putting up nine points.

El Dorado found their leader in sophomore Jacob Villalobos, who went 5 for 8 en route to 25 points. That's the most points Villalobos has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Quintez Floyd, who made all 5 shots he took to post 11 points and eight boards.

Hanks' defeat dropped their record down to 5-18. As for El Dorado, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 12-11 record this season.

Hanks didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 67-40 loss against Americas on the 10th. El Dorado has also already played their next game, a 56-55 defeat against Del Valle on the 10th.
