Softball Recap: Colusa Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Colusa couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They fell just short of the University Prep Panthers by a score of 5-4 on Saturday. The RedHawks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Panthers earlier this season, when they won 2-1.

Ava Garcia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Peyton Miller made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Abril Guzman, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI.

Colusa moved to 21-8 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for University Prep, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-11-2 record this season.

Colusa does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for University Prep, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on San Leandro at 4:00 p.m. on the 3rd. The Pirates' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
