Basketball Recap: Perquimans Comes Up Short

Perquimans lost against Tarboro back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Perquimans Pirates lost 81-59 to the Tarboro Vikings. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 554th, while the Vikings are ranked 186th).

When it comes to explaining why Perquimans lost, don't look at Xavier Spellman. Despite the final result, he posted 16 points and six assists. That's the most assists Spellman has posted since back in January of 2024. Parker Nixon was another key player, putting up 12 points in addition to five boards and three blocks.

Spellman wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Perquimans was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

This is the second loss in a row for Perquimans and nudges their season record down to 4-18. As for Tarboro, their win bumped their record up to 11-4.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Bertie the next time they take the court. Tarboro will host Bertie at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, while Perquimans will host them at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
