Baseball Recap: Saugatuck Comes Up Short

Saugatuck fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Martin on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Clippers by a score of 3-2. The Indians' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Holden Burd spent all 7.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks. He has become a key player for Saugatuck: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 3-6 otherwise.

At the plate, Saugatuck saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Morgan Davis, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Saugatuck's defeat dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Martin, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Saugatuck beat the Clippers by a score of 12-9 later that day.
