Basketball Recap: Calhoun Falls Charter's Winning Streak Snapped at Seven Games

It was a good run, but Calhoun Falls Charter unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Monday. They took a 53-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Dixie Hornets. The Blue Flashes were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hornets apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Several Blue Flashes players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Autumn Thomas, who posted 25 points and three steals. Thomas' evening made it nine games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kor'Tasia Tillman, who scored seven points and eight steals.

Even though they lost, Calhoun Falls Charter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 16 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Kerrie O'Shields continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Dixie, putting up 30 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. O'Shields has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played. Hannah Carter was another key player, earning six points along with six boards and four steals.

Calhoun Falls Charter's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 7-2. As for Dixie, the win got them back to even at 6-6.

Calhoun Falls Charter didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 69-37 victory against Ware Shoals on the 15th. As for Dixie, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 46-29 loss against Ninety Six on the 15th.
