Basketball Recap: Ron Brown Falls Short Against Ranked Banneker

On Friday, Ron Brown faced Banneker in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Ron Brown Monarchs took a hard 62-47 fall against the Banneker Bulldogs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Monarchs of the 62-43 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

Ron Brown lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Arrington Smith, who went 6 for 14 on his way to 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Derrick Harley, who posted 16 points.

Even though they lost, Ron Brown was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Banneker's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ahlik Walker, who earned 20 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Doran Clausell, who had 12 points and five rebounds.

Ron Brown has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-6 record this season. As for Banneker, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3.

Ron Brown didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 67-44 win against Bard on the 8th. As for Banneker, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Ballou at 7:30 p.m. on January 13th.
