Softball Recap: Puckett Beats Pisgah for Their Sixth Straight Victory

Puckett waltzed into their matchup on Monday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Pisgah Dragons. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 6-2 two weeks ago.

Lila Murphy was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brooke Shivers, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double.

Puckett pushed their record up to 14-6-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Pisgah, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-6.

Looking ahead, Puckett is taking a road trip to take on Raleigh at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Pisgah, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Germantown at 6:30 p.m. The Dragons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mavericks have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season.
