Recap: Caldwell Bluejays vs. South Haven Cardinals

The Caldwell Bluejays's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 57-50 to South Haven. Caldwell was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as South Haven apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.

Despite the loss, Caldwell still got an impressive performance from Jackson Risley, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 42% of Caldwell's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Layten Caruthers, who scored ten points.

Caldwell has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for South Haven, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-6 record this season.

Caldwell won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Argonia at 10:30 a.m. on January 20th. Hopefully Argonia focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Friday. As for South Haven, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Oxford at 7:00 p.m. Oxford presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than South Haven in Kansas (Oxford is ranked 68th, while South Haven is ranked 259th).
