Recap: Alice Coyotes vs. Zapata Hawks
The Alice Coyotes entered their tilt with the Zapata Hawks with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Alice took their game at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 56-14 victory over Zapata. Considering Alice has won five matchups by more than 25 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Leading Alice to victory were Landon Rodriguez and Lucian Cruz. Rodriguez picked up 61 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Cruz threw for 192 yards and three touchdowns while completing 81.3% of his passes. Jesse Villarreal made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
When it comes to explaining why Zapata lost, one person who can't be blamed is Andres Gutierrez. Despite the final result, he picked up 168 receiving yards and a touchdown. Gutierrez was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 69 yards.
Alice's victory was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-1. As for Zapata, their loss dropped their record down to 6-3.
Alice will head out on the road to face off against King at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. King will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 893rd, while Alice is ranked 362nd). As for Zapata, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Tuloso-Midway at 7:30 p.m.
