Softball Recap: Moose Lake/Willow River's Victory on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Moose Lake/Willow River extended their winning streak to four on Monday, bumping their season record up to 9-2 in the process. They skirted past the Hinckley-Finlayson Jaguars 7-5. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Rebels also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.

As for Hinckley-Finlayson, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat they have suffered since May 9, 2024.

For Hinckley-Finlayson's part, Aris Richey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Lainey Johnson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Nindii Jenkins, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Moose Lake/Willow River will head out to face off against Aitkin at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hinckley-Finlayson, they will take on Ogilvie at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Jaguars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season.
