The Colorado Wolves will face off against the Anson Tigers on Saturday. Colorado is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.
Colorado is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Ozona a 20-0 shutout. Considering the Wolves have won 18 matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Mia Obenhaus made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Obenhaus was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one triple.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bryanna Munoz, who fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 4-for-5. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Aj Goodney was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Colorado hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 17-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Anson beat Cisco 9-6 on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tigers.
Kayme Elrod spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Irelynn Lozano was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylar Bowen, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Colorado's victory bumped their record up to 22-7-1. As for Anson, their win bumped their record up to 9-7.
Everything went Colorado's way against Anson in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, as Colorado made off with a 15-0 victory. Will the Wolves repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
