Volleyball Recap: Sandhills Valley Starts Season with Defeat at Home

Sandhills Valley unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Paxton Tigers by a score of 2-1 on Thursday. The Mavericks have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Sandhills Valley actually scored more points across those three sets (66-63), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The match finished with set scores of 13-25, 25-23, 25-18.

Rhay Burns paced Sandhills Valley's offense, picking up seven kills. Burns got some help from Avery Weems and her 13 assists. Weems was also solid from the service line: she led the team with three aces.

Coincidentally, Sandhills Valley and Paxton will both be playing Maywood/Hayes Center the next time they take the court. The Mavericks will head out to face the Wolves at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Tigers will play them later in the day, at 5:00 p.m.
