Baseball Recap: Gila Bend Wins Going Away Against Tohono O'odham

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gila Bend). Everything went their way against the Tohono O'Odham Eagles on Tuesday as Gila Bend made off with a 30-5 win. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Judum Sam made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. Sam was even better at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, Rogellio Villegas was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five runs, five RBI, and two doubles. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Crash Davis, who scored five runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Gila Bend always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .756. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.

Gila Bend's record is now 3-1. As for Tohono O'Odham, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Gila Bend will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Wickenburg Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on April 4. As for Tohono O'Odham, they will take on Thunderbird Adventist Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
