League recap: Weir climbs in standings with win

Weir was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from ninth to seventh in 1A Region 3. Earlier in the week, the Lions defeated Ethel 29-20.

Noxapater extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Pelahatchie, 52-20. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.

Sebastopol's dynamic duo of Cody Shaw and Eric Burkes proved tough for Union to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Shaw threw for 201 yards and two touchdowns and Burkes had 144 yards receiving. Luther Burks helped Sebastopol's passing attack out by catching two balls for 39 yards.

Tiberias Lampkin was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 194 yards on 20 carries as West Oktibbeha fell to the Yellowjackets. Teammate Von Smith added to the ground attack by rushing for 69 yards.

West Oktibbeha's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Timberwolves feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Smith has thrown for 1304 yards and 20 touchdowns this season, while Lavante Tate has 23 catches for 668 yards. Lampkin leads the league in rushing with 1668 yards.

Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when the Timberwolves take on Noxapater. West Oktibbeha's offense has recorded 412 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while Justin hunter's team has permitted only 88 on the year.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Adam Lowrey's team takes on the Tigers. At the moment, the Timberwolves are in first, while Noxapater is in third.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when West Oktibbeha takes on the Tigers. The Timberwolves have allowed 131 points this season, while Noxapater has given up 88. West Oktibbeha allowed 6 points last week as it beat East Oktibbeha.

The Tigers made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,620 from 6,516. The advance stemmed from a 52-20 victory over the Chiefs last week.
