Softball Game Preview: Crittenden County Rockets vs. Webster County Trojans

Crittenden County is 2-7 against Webster County since March of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Rockets will venture away from home to face off against the Trojans at 5:30 p.m.

Things were looking good for Crittenden County after they put the first run on the board on Saturday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell 9-4 to Madisonville-North Hopkins.

Meanwhile, Webster County came tearing into Saturday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Storm as they made off with a 10-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Layla Scott made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted over her last four games. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Chloe Papineau was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Raynei Roy, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Webster County's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-14. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Crittenden County, they now have a losing record of 11-12.

Crittenden County was able to grind out a solid victory over Webster County when the teams last played back in April, winning 4-1. Do the Rockets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
