Basketball Recap: Simon Gratz Picks Up 18th Straight Win at Home

Simon Gratz waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They walked away with a 64-57 victory over the Abraham Lincoln Railsplitters. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 142nd, while the Railsplitters are ranked 296th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Simon Gratz had a senior duo take command as Nasir Mackely posted 24 points and Sihaaj Johnson put up 20 points. Those 24 points gave Mackely a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Rakim Johnson, who scored seven points.

Several Railsplitters players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Miguel Rosa Jr, who had 18 points. The game was Rosa Jr's third in a row with at least 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Ortiz-Muhammad, who earned 14 points.

Simon Gratz's win was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.8 points over those games.
