Atkinson County had won five straight games dating back to last season and Ladarien Roberts did his part to make it six on Friday. The Rebels strolled past the Montgomery County Eagles with points to spare, taking the game 41-27 for which the team can thank Roberts, who rushed for 133 yards on only 12 carries. He also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, picking up a sack and making eight total tackles.

One reason for the win was Atkinson County's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Roberts, Messiah Johnson, and Tykevious Lock, who each picked up one sack apiece.

When it comes to explaining why Montgomery County lost, don't look at Elijah McEwen. Despite the final result, he rushed for 87 yards and two TDs, and also picked up 104 receiving yards and one score. McEwen was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield on a catch that went for 52 yards.

Atkinson County's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Montgomery County, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Coming up, Atkinson County will take on Pataula Charter Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Montgomery County, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Taylor County at 7:30 p.m. on the 12th.
