Baseball Game Preview: St. John's Islanders vs. Lowcountry Leadership NaviGators

The St. John's Islanders will take on the Lowcountry Leadership NaviGators at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. St. John's is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.

St. John's will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Woodland on Thursday. The Islanders put the hurt on the Wolverines with a sharp 10-3 win. The Islanders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.

Micah Davison made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs. St. John's is undefeated when Davison posts two or more runs, but 4-5 otherwise.

In other batting news, Antonio Hernandez was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He has become a key player for St. John's: the team is 6-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Davis Crowley, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.

Meanwhile, Lowcountry Leadership had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over Academic Magnet on Thursday.

St. John's is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Lowcountry Leadership, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.
