Basketball Recap: Melrose Takes a Loss

Melrose won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Monday. They lost 70-47 to the Memphis East Mustangs. The Golden Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2023.

Memphis East's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jacquez Suggs, who posted 17 points. Suggs' evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jordan Arbuckle, who earned 13 points.

Melrose dropped their record down to 1-6 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.0 points per game. As for Memphis East, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.

Melrose wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 51-48 victory against Mitchell on the 10th. As for Memphis East, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 53-32 loss against Memphis University School on the 13th.
