Bishop Moore had won eight straight home games dating back to last season and Amar'E Johnson did his part to make it nine on Friday. The Hornets came out on top against the Tampa Catholic Crusaders by a score of 29-20 for which the team can thank Johnson, who rushed for 270 yards and three TDs while picking up 11.3 yards per carry. He showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 60 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Bishop Moore's defense and their 12 sacks. Mateo Rivera led the group effort, picking up three of those sacks all by himself. Several Crusaders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Colton Jackson, who threw for 245 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also rushed for 52 yards and one score. Tampa Catholic's leading receiver Jonathan 'Jo Jo' Hall was Jackson's top target yet again, picking up 136 receiving yards and one TD.
Bishop Moore's victory bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Tampa Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.
Bishop Moore will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Eustis at 7:00 p.m. on the 10th. The Hornets are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Tampa Catholic, they have already played their next contest, a 32-17 defeat against Killian on the 3rd.
