Basketball Recap: Pelham Panthers vs. Briarwood Christian Lions
It was a good run, but the Pelham Panthers unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Monday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 37-36 to Briarwood Christian. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Pelham of the 46-39 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January.
Despite the defeat, Pelham saw an underclassman step up: Tee King scored 16 points along with three steals. That was a full 44.4% of Pelham's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Karma Wynn, who scored ten points.
Pelham's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-10. As for Briarwood Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season.
Pelham won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th. Calera will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings (they are ranked 287th, while the Panthers are ranked 44th). As for Briarwood Christian, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Titans at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th. Gadsden City is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
