Basketball Recap: Maddie Smith Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat St. John Lutheran

On Tuesday, the Bell Bulldogs strolled past the St. John Lutheran Saints with points to spare, taking the game 48-30. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs.

Bell got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Maddie Smith out in front who posted 15 points in addition to five boards and three steals. Smith has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. Lizzie Bagby was another key player, putting up seven points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Bell smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 15 consecutive contests.

Despite the defeat, St. John Lutheran saw an underclassman step up: freshman Gracie Sue Rice had 26 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Rice has scored all season.

Bell's record is now 7-9. As for St. John Lutheran, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

Bell has already played their next match (against Lafayette), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. St. John Lutheran has also has no score uploaded for their next contest, this one against Cedar Key.
