Volleyball Recap: River Islands' Run of 11 Straight Victories Now Over

It was a good run, but River Islands unfortunately witnessed the end of their 11-match winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Ben Holt College Prep Academy Bobcats by a score of 3-2. If the Riptide were looking for revenge after losing 3-1 to the Bobcats when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

River Islands took Ben Holt College Prep Academy into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking four-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 13-25, 21-25, 25-18, 15-11.

Despite the defeat, River Islands had strong showings from Ava Rodriguez, who had ten digs and three assists, and Milyn Morales, who had 23 kills and 15 digs. Morales is on a roll when it comes to kills, as she's now had six or more in each of the last 18 games she's played dating back to last season. Corley Simoni also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.

River Islands' loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 19-3. As for Ben Holt College Prep Academy, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 21-4.

River Islands and Ben Holt College Prep Academy should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Riptide will face off against Turlock Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (387 vs. 1268). Meanwhile, Ben Holt College Prep Academy (ranked 404th) will meet Aspire Langston Hughes Academy (ranked 1355th) at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
