Baseball Recap: Columbia Picks Up Fifth Straight Win at Home

Columbia lost to North Pike back in February of 2017, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Saturday. Columbia came out on top against North Pike by a score of 7-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.

Columbia got a great performance from Max McDaniel as he pitched 5.1 innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits. What's more, McDaniel posted five strikeouts, the most he's had over his last four matchups.

On the hitting side, Greyson Carney was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonathan Lowery, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one double.

Columbia pushed their record up to 13-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for North Pike, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Columbia Wildcats duke it out with Sumrall Bobcats at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Columbia's pitchers better be ready for this one: Sumrall has averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. As for North Pike, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Brookhaven at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
