Southern and Eastern are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Tornadoes will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Southern's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Belpre as they made off with a 12-0 win. The Tornadoes haven't had any issues with the Golden Eagles recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Meanwhile, Eastern waltzed into their game on Wednesday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They were the clear victors by a 28-0 margin over the Falcons. The Eagles' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Rylie White 2027 and Jaynna Wright 2026 were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, White 2027 pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Wright 2026 struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, White 2027 got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, five runs, and five RBI, while Wright 2026 went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Those five runs gave White 2027 a new career-high.
In other batting news, Emma Putman 2025 was incredible, firing off two home runs, five runs, and six RBI while going 4-for-4. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aedre Ault 2028, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with five runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Eastern kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in nine consecutive contests.
Southern's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Eastern, their win bumped their record up to 12-7.
Southern took their victory against Eastern in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 11-2 score. Will the Tornadoes repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
