Basketball Recap: Berthoud Comes Up Short

Berthoud played a tough match on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Timnath Cubs and fell 81-53. The Spartans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 48-28.

Berthoud's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Isaac Erickson, who posted ten points, and Jayce Newbill, who went 5 for 10 on his way to 14 points. Erickson has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. Weston Peatrowsky was another key player, putting up five points and nine rebounds.

Timnath got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jack Hemme out in front who went 6 of 10 on his way to 13 points and five steals. Those five steals gave Hemme a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Jacobson, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 13 points and seven rebounds.

Berthoud's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Timnath, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Berthoud will host Thompson Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Berthoud is facing Thompson Valley at the right time seeing as Thompson Valley is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Timnath, they will be playing in front of their home fans against University at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. University knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight contests -- so hopefully Timnath likes a good challenge.
