Football Recap: Beaver Takes a Loss

If Beaver was riding high fresh off their 49-7 takedown of Emery last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Beavers and the Duchesne Eagles were almost perfectly matched up on Friday, but the Beavers suffered a 24-23 loss. The game was a 17-17 toss-up at halftime, but the Beavers couldn't quite close it out.

When it comes to explaining why Beaver lost, don't look at Davin Orton. Despite the final result, he rushed for 53 yards and one TD, and also threw for 99 yards and one touchdown on only six passes. Orton didn't just play on offense: he also made seven total tackles (2.0 for loss) and defended two passes.

Beaver didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Dominik Tobey and Jex Bradshaw. Tobey is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least eight every time he's taken the field this season.

Nashden Goodliffe was a one-man wrecking crew For Duchesne. as he rushed for 168 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 8.0 yards per carry, and also threw for 185 yards and one touchdown. Those 168 rushing yards gave Goodliffe a new career-high.

Having lost for the first time this season, Beaver fell to 3-1. As for Duchesne, the win made it two in a row for them and also bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Coming up, Beaver will face off against Millard at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Beavers will be up against the Eagles' rather soft defense (which has allowed 27 points per match), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Duchesne, they will square off against Enterprise at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
