Baseball Game Preview: North Pitt Panthers vs. SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars

For the second straight game, North Pitt will face off against SouthWest Edgecombe. A feisty cat fight will be fought as North Pitt Panthers duke it out with SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: North Pitt has struggled recently with six defeats in a row, while SouthWest Edgecombe will arrive with four straight victories.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for North Pitt's offense. They lost 15-0 to SouthWest Edgecombe on Tuesday.

For SouthWest Edgecombe's part, Parker Gay and Brysten Keel were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Gay struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Keel tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. At bat, Gay went 2-for-3 with one double, while Keel went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Those two hits gave Keel a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jaelyn McLean was a standout: he scored two runs while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Tyson Ayers, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

SouthWest Edgecombe always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

SouthWest Edgecombe's win bumped their record up to 9-1. As for North Pitt, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.
