The First Academy Eagles will face off against the Leesburg Yellow Jackets at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. First Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 13.8 runs per game this season.
Last Tuesday, everything went First Academy's way against Real Life Christian Academy as First Academy made off with a 15-3 victory. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Raptors recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Caiden Wilcox made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave him a new career-low. He was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, First Academy got a massive performance out of Cason Cherry, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Cherry has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Colin Bryan, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Leesburg was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They came up short against The Villages Charter, falling 20-3.
Leesburg saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaxon Sustarsic, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.
First Academy's victory bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Leesburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-10.
Leesburg's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: First Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .433. It's a different story for Leesburg, though, as they've only averaged .235. Will they be able to contain First Academy's hitters?
First Academy beat Leesburg 8-5 in their previous meeting back in February. Does First Academy have another victory up their sleeve, or will Leesburg turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
