Basketball Recap: New Philadelphia Gets Big Victory over Higher-Ranked Ashland

New Philadelphia lost to Ashland back in December of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The New Philadelphia Quakers skirted past the Ashland Arrows 45-43. The win was all the more spectacular given the Quakers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 265th, while the Arrows are ranked 86th).

Ashland's loss came despite strong showings from Madison Hoffman and Camryn Cox. Hoffman posted 17 points, while Cox had eight points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. That's the most points Hoffman has posted since back in February of 2024.

New Philadelphia is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.0 points per game. As for Ashland, they moved to 12-5 with that defeat, which also ended their nine-game winning streak.

New Philadelphia has already played their next matchup, a 59-54 victory against Marlington on the 1st. As for Ashland, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-34 win against Madison Comprehensive on the 1st.
