The Strasburg Indians will head out to take on the Alameda Pirates at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
While Indians fans will have to keep waiting for their team to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Tuesday's season opener. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Bruce Randolph a 17-0 shutout on Tuesday.
Chase Gilbert made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Gilbert was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Strasburg let Aiden Bongard and Jared Flamini run wild. Bongard scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Flamini went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. What's more, Bongard posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Erik Alamillo was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-1.
Meanwhile, Alameda entered their tilt with Aurora Central on Friday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 12-1 win. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by eight runs or more this season.
Angel Arroyo was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Arroyo was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Vinny Arguello, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Christopher Garcia also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Alameda was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in four consecutive games.
