Basketball Recap: St. Monica Academy Comes Up Short

St. Monica Academy lost against Desert Christian back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The St. Monica Academy Crusaders fell just short of the Desert Christian Knights by a score of 43-40. While losing is never fun, the Crusaders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1215th, while the Knights are ranked 585th).

Desert Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Faith Avila out in front who went 7 of 11 en route to 14 points and six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Armstrong, who posted 14 points and four steals.

St. Monica Academy dropped their record down to 4-13 with the loss, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Desert Christian, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-5.

St. Monica Academy has already played their next contest, a 42-19 victory against San Gabriel Mission on the 25th. Desert Christian has also already played their next game (against St. Monica Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
