Cathedral proved they can win big on Friday (they won by nine) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the Zionsville Eagles. This was payback for the Fighting Irish, who suffered a 7-5 loss the last time these two teams met.

Charlie Johnson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Chase Nickols, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2025. Eli Sinsabaugh was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

Cathedral now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Zionsville, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-2.

Looking ahead, Cathedral will host Westfield at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Fighting Irish's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rocks have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. As for Zionsville, they will venture away from home to face off against Hamilton Southeastern at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
