Baseball Recap: Hazelwood Central Snaps Ten-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Hazelwood Central got themselves on the board against Hazelwood East on Monday, but Hazelwood East never followed suit. They walked away with a 5-0 victory over the Spartans. For the Hawks, this counts as revenge for the 10-8 win the Spartans walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Mekhi Maclin and Jace Dickson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Maclin kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 16 over six innings pitched. Meanwhile, Dickson pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Maclin went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI, while Dickson scored three runs and stole six bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Julius Reed, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. Jaylin Worthy was another, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Hazelwood Central's victory ended a ten-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-1. As for Hazelwood East, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hazelwood Central will take on STEAM Academy at McCluer South Berkeley at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hazelwood East, they will venture away from home to challenge Riverview Gardens at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
