Recap: Mattamuskeet Lakers vs. Hobgood Charter Raiders

The Mattamuskeet Lakers lost against the Hobgood Charter Raiders back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Mattamuskeet was dealt a 48-20 loss at the hands of Hobgood Charter. Mattamuskeet has struggled against Hobgood Charter recently, as their contest on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why Mattamuskeet lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kensley Cox. Despite the final result, she scored ten points along with seven rebounds and five steals. That was a full 50% of Mattamuskeet's points, marking the 14th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Mariah Mccoy was another key contributor, scoring four points along with eight rebounds.

Mattamuskeet's lineup was just a bit different on Friday as Mccoy got a bit more time on the court (28 vs. her season average of 14.55). Mccoy made the most of the opportunity, scoring four points along with eight rebounds. A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hobgood Charter to victory, but perhaps none more so than Madison Betts, who scored six points along with five rebounds and two steals. Betts also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Kinsey Peel, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and two steals.

Mattamuskeet dropped their record down to 1-13 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Hobgood Charter, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 6-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mattamuskeet will take on Bear Grass Charter at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bear Grass Charter will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Mattamuskeet surely won't give up without a fight. As for Hobgood Charter, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Columbia at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully Hobgood Charter focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Friday.
