On Saturday, William Penn faced Sanford in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The William Penn Colonials fell just short of the Sanford Warriors by a score of 67-65. The Colonials' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Sanford's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zir Ellegood, who went 5 for 7 en route to 16 points and five assists. Jayden Taylor was another key player, dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.

William Penn now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Sanford, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-2.

William Penn will square off against St. Elizabeth at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. William Penn knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully St. Elizabeth likes a good challenge. As for Sanford, they will head out to face off against Wilmington Friends at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Sanford has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
