Recap: Apex Cougars vs. Broughton Capitals
The Apex Cougars had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 52-42 victory over Broughton on Monday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Apex also won the last time the pair played back in November of 2022.
Apex's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Isabella Pease, who scored 9 points along with 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Analiza Whittlesey was another key contributor, scoring 20 points along with 6 steals and 5 rebounds.
Kalajah Wright and Kyra Gustus certainly did their best on Monday to try and avoid the loss. Wright scored 13 points along with 8 rebounds, while Gustus scored 10 points along with 5 rebounds. Wright scored a full 31% of Broughton's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Apex's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Broughton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.
Apex will head out on the road to face off against Leesville Road at 6:30 p.m. on November 28th. As for Broughton, they will square off against St. Pauls at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully St. Pauls focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Monday.
