Baseball Recap: West Clermont Wins Going Away Against Covington Catholic

West Clermont made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Covington Catholic, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Wolves were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Colonels on Tuesday. The Wolves not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 25, 2024.

Zach Swartz tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over 4.1 innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Gavin Speranza was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Caleb DeRossett, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

West Clermont has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs this season. As for Covington Catholic, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-2.
