Football Game Preview: Brick Memorial Mustangs vs. Middletown North Lions + How To Watch

The Brick Memorial Mustangs will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Middletown North Lions at 6:00 p.m. Brick Memorial knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Middletown North likes a good challenge.

Brick Memorial is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They blew past Steinert 40-7. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Mustangs' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey football rankings (they are ranked 18th, while the Spartans are ranked 119th).

Brick Memorial's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nazeer Whittaker, who rushed for 237 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 12.5 yards per carry. Those 237 rushing yards gave Whittaker a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jason Lajara, who rushed for 47 yards and three scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Brick Memorial was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 297 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 154 rushing yards in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Middletown North didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Manalapan on Friday, but they still walked away with a 20-14 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lions.

Brick Memorial better keep an eye on Matthew Belenko. He was instrumental in Middletown North's win, rushing for 97 yards and a pair of TDs. Belenko is also on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Middletown North also got help from Jack Viola, who showed off his sure hands for 87 receiving yards.

Middletown North now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Brick Memorial, their record is now 9-2.

Brick Memorial didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Middletown North when the teams last played back in September of 2023, but they still walked away with a 21-17 win. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
