Basketball Recap: Seneca Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Seneca won against Daniel last Thursday with 71 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The Seneca Bobcats strolled past the Crescent Tigers with points to spare, taking the game 71-52. Given the Bobcats' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while the Tigers are ranked 202nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Crescent saw an underclassman step up: freshman Philip Deveaux went 8 for 16 on his way to 23 points. Those 23 points gave Deveaux a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Qya Clemons, who posted six points in addition to six boards and three steals.

The win made it two in a row for Seneca and bumps their season record up to 16-8. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.0 points over those games. As for Crescent, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 12-12.

Looking ahead, Seneca will take on Travelers Rest at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Seneca knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Travelers Rest likes a good challenge. As for Crescent, they will square off against Pendleton at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Crescent is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.9 points per game this season.
