Hampton falls despite strong effort from Nevaeh Lukassen

Recap: Hampton Hawks vs. Kenesaw Blue Devils

The Hampton Hawks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. Their2023 ended with a 49-30 loss against Kenesaw. Hampton has not had much luck with Kenesaw recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

Despite the loss, Hampton still got an impressive performance from Nevaeh Lukassen, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Lukassen scored a full 53.3% of Hampton's points, the ninth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Gavin Gilmore, who scored four points along with 17 rebounds and three steals.

Kenesaw's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Avery Kelley, who scored six points. Kelley also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Sophia Schukei was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with nine rebounds.

Hampton's loss dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Kenesaw, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-3.

Hampton won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Harvard at 10:00 a.m. on December 30, 2023. Harvard comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last five games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. Kenesaw won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Wilcox-Hildreth at 1:00 p.m. on December 30, 2023. Wilcox-Hildreth has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
