In the marquee game of the weekend, No. 6 Duncanville defended their Class 6A state title with a 66-53 victory over No. 19 Westlake (Austin) behind a game-high 27 points from SMU signee
Zhuric Phelps. Duncanville is now 5-0 in state championship games in program history.
A thriller went down in the Class 5A state championship game Friday night as
Terrance Arceneaux hit a game-tying three to send things into overtime before again beating the buzzer in the overtime period to send Beaumont United (Beaumont) home with a 71-70 victory over Kimball (Dallas). The win caps an unbeaten season for the Timberwolves and also marks the first state championship in school history.
Friday evening, Cole clinched the program's first state championship
since Shaquille O'Neal's senior season in 1989, defeating Tatum 77-60 in
the Class 3A title game. Junior
Trey Blackmore led the way in the win,
finishing with a game-high 34 points.
