The Huntsville Hornets will take on the Lake Creek Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
While Huntsville's win against Dayton wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Hornets pulled ahead with a 42-41 photo finish over the Broncos on Friday. The victory almost wasn't to be: the Hornets were down 21-7 in the second quarter.

Huntsville found their leader in sophomore Zarien Adolphe, who rushed for 144 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.0 yards per carry, and also threw for 185 yards and a pair of TDs. Adolphe is becoming a predictor of the Hornets' success: when he posts at least 80 rushing yards the team is undefeated (and 0-4 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jakhavien Birks, who rushed for 157 yards and one score.
Huntsville was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 314 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 152 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Lake Creek didn't have too much trouble with Nederland on Friday as they won 39-22. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 172nd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 346th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Huntsville better keep an eye on Zach Colwell. He was instrumental in Lake Creek's win, rushing for 95 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 245 yards and one TD. Juan Gonzalez was another key player, picking up 103 receiving yards and one score.
The win made it two in a row for Lake Creek and bumps their season record up to 3-4. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 44.5 points over those games. As for Huntsville, their win bumped their record up to 3-4.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Huntsville has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 257.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Lake Creek struggles in that department as they've been averaging 175.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Huntsville came up short against Lake Creek in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 29-24. Will the Hornets have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other football content.
