Softball Recap: Rolling Meadows Starts Season with Win at Home

Rolling Meadows gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They blew past the Waukegan Bulldogs 21-0. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Mustangs as it put an end to their six-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Iris Jordan and Mary Linker made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Jordan struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Linker pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those six strikeouts gave Jordan a new career-high. At the plate, Jordan scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Linker scored four runs while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Vanessa Cobos, who scored three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Caylee Del Boccio, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Rolling Meadows always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Waukegan only posted an OBP of .294.

Looking ahead, Rolling Meadows is taking a road trip to face off against Saint Viator at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Waukegan, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Woodstock at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
