Softball Game Preview: De Kalb Bears vs. Liberty-Eylau Leopards

The De Kalb Bears will face off against the Liberty-Eylau Leopards at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (De Kalb has three straight victories, Liberty-Eylau has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

De Kalb had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 14-run drubbing they dealt Sam Rayburn on Saturday. De Kalb put the hurt on Sam Rayburn with a sharp 15-1 win. Considering the Bears have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Zoey Farris, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Caylin Corbett, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

De Kalb was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Liberty-Eylau came up short against Bowie on Tuesday, falling 20-1.

Liberty-Eylau's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for De Kalb, their victory bumped their record up to 13-3.

De Kalb took their win against Liberty-Eylau in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 by a conclusive 15-0. Does De Kalb have another victory up their sleeve, or will Liberty-Eylau turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
